NOTE: This is my "working demo," recorded as a "live" songwriter's demo on a portable recorder. It's not a finished studio recording. This is my animal rights song, my charity song. I am so against wolf hunting! A favorite charity is Defenders Of Wildlife.

Do you live with a dog? Then you, more or less, live with a wolf! Shooting wolves is like shooting magnificent dogs!

We've saved wolves from the brink of extinction and now we've overturned the Endangered Species designation, now allowing people to kill them. Limpy was killed by a so-called hunter, wolf hunting. I don't understand a lot of hunters. All Limpy was doing was being a wolf, sniffing around for something to eat for him and his pups. He had never even been a threat to livestock. And my personal take on the livestock issue is... so what. My dad was a rancher raising thousands of cattle each year, so, I do have that perspective. As far as I'm concerned, the wolves deserve something to eat, whatever it is. Just let them be.

Lyric

"Limpy" - Bill Pittman
(copr)2009 Bill Pittman All rights reserved

Choppers and planes, stinging pain, snow turned blood red
Throughout Yellowstone, howling moans, Limpy is dead

[ CHORUS: ]
It's not fair, some are chased, then shot dead from the air
They say It's just a wolf, who cares
I care (3rd: Don't you care)
I care

It was abrupt, little pups yelping for food
The image of Limpy and them darkens my mood

[ CHORUS - REPEAT ]

[ BRIDGE: ]
For all of his years, he made it fine
Now so many don't care Limpy's gone, the end of his line

[ CHORUS - REPEAT ]

EXPLANATION

handsome wolf
A handsome wolf

Limpy was a wolf, a member of Yellowstone's Druid Peak pack. His official "ID" to wildlife biologists and wolf-watchers was 253M. Limpy was well-known due to his perpetual limp. Limpy was injured during a wolf fight as a pup and limped for the rest of his life.

Until now, wolves have been protected via the U. S. Endangered Species Act. Limpy was studied for years until his death March, 28, 2008 in Wyoming. Many wolves are now shot in the government's wolf "control" program and Limpy was killed on the first day the wolf lost its protection. Shooters chase wolves in helicopters and airplanes and shoot them from the air. They also poison them. Limpy was shot by a hunter, wolf hunting at an elk feeding ground.

He was a survivor, living to age 8 until killed. This is pretty old for a wolf. He even sired and helped raise pups. Limpy was a cool wolf; it makes me sick to think of this great animal and his brothers, sisters and pups being shot, poisoned or snared. I wish wolves could carry guns! Wolf hunting would be more even. Wolf evolution did not prepare them for the invention of a high-powered rifle bullet travelling 2,000 feet per second. It's not fair at all!

I wrote this animal rights song as a charity song. I am very much supportive of Defenders Of Wildlife.

wolf pups
Wolf pups like this are killed in this ridiculous program.

Here is a video about Limpy, member of the Druid Peak pack, which was the first pack of wolves from Canada reintroduced to Yellowstone after the brink of extinction:
