"BUBBLES"
(copr)2004 Bill Pittman

When he could understand, his mama said, Son
The bubbles will help boost you along
The maestro Mr. Welk gets the notes in the bubbles from all kinds of songs
Each Saturday night, we'll gather in here
Watch the bubbles, they float like balloons
Soaring melodies from so many of the old standard tunes

[ CHORUS: ]
Those Saturday nights, they gathered around the t.v. room to see that RCA t.v.
Big band bubbles in the air, the maestro set the notes free

When he was ten, his mom told his dad
This little boy needs ivory keys
And for awhile, he'll be bad but he'll improve, you'll see
Then at 13, he said Oh, Daddy, please
Buy this Silvertone Sears guitar
The bubbles are helping and you know I want to take it far

[ CHORUS - REPEAT ]

[ BRIDGE: ]
He tickled those keys, he picked on those strings
He listened to the radio songs
Eventually, he could follow the notes
And he practiced playing along
One station played Bach, another played Rock
And the country deejay touched his soul
He would call up and ask Would you play Mr. Cash
I like the way he gets rhythm to roll

On Saturday nights, he soaked up the notes
The bubbles floating free from the songs
Rodgers-Hammerstein and the Gershwin kind boosted him on
He bought music books from Loretta and Buck
Carole King, the Beatles and Stones
And tried to pick out the songs of James Taylor, complete unknown

[ CHORUS #3: ]
One Saturday night, he said Mom and Dad, this time, the notes are on me
I wrote you a song, the bubbles must have set it free

And that Saturday night, as the little boy played
They swore bubbles floated free
